An Early Childhood Vision Consultant (ECVC) has knowledge and an understanding of how a visual impairment could potentially impact a child’s overall development and behaviour. They work in collaboration with parents, caregivers, childcare teachers and the child’s therapy team to help increase the team’s knowledge of how the child best uses their functional vision and other senses to gather information about their environment. Support and service is offered in the home, in childcare settings and during therapy sessions. The ECVC provides strategies that can be implemented throughout the child’s day-to-day activities that promote overall learning. Young children learn best when learning is embedded into the routines of their day and this is the focus of the Blind-Low Vision Early Intervention Program.
When you first learn about your child’s Cortical Visual Impairment diagnosis, it’s very important to contact an expert who can assess your child’s needs. Contact a CVI Range Endorsee in your area.
